MANY DECADES OF LOOKING INTO THE FUTURE

From modest beginnings to global leadership in concrete pumping, it’s been a long and rewarding journey for Putzmeister.

Founded in 1958 on the simple premise of making work easier for an average labourer, Putzmeister today is a € 750 million-plus global organization.

The brand commands the respect of customers and the industry for the durability of its products, quality service and for its pioneering technological innovation in the concrete placing industry.

Here’s a timeline of some events in the decades past. Though we’re more excited about the landmarks to cross in the decades ahead.


THE BEGINNING

  • 1958: Karl Schlecht founds KS-Maschinenbau in Germany; eventually renamed Putzmeister (German for “plaster master”)

  • 1961: Construction of the first section of Factory I in Filderstadt near Stuttgart airport
  • 1963: Company renamed “Putzmeister”
  • 1965: Manufacture of Gypsomat, the world’s first automatic and continuously working plaster machine for gypsum plaster, revolutionising plastering technique of the day

TAKING PUTZMEISTER TO THE WORLD

  • 1971: Opening of production plant in Aichtal, Germany. Putzmeister delivers its 1,000th concrete pump
  • 1974: Putzmeister establishes operations in France, Italy, Spain, Great Britain, and Brazil
  • 1977: Putzmeister sets the world record in high rise concrete pumping at 310m at the Post Office Tower in Frankfurt, Germany

  • 1978: New world record set for concrete pumping to a height of 340m over a total distance of 600m in the St. Gotthard Tunnel, Switzerland
  • 1980: Putzmeister establishes its fourth product group, Tunnel Machines

SETTING RECORDS

  • 1982: Delivery of the largest concrete pump in the world, with a boom height of almost 50m. Putzmeister acquires Thomsen, Inc. to form Putzmeister America

  • 1983: Delivery of the “Shotcrete Buffalo”, the largest wet shotcrete pump in the world

  • 1985: Putzmeister sets high rise concrete pumping world record of 432m in the spanish power station Estangente-Sallente.

  • 1986: Delivery of the largest truck-mounted concrete pump in the world with a 62m boom. Putzmeister pumps with special radiation protection used to encapsulate damaged Chernobyl reactor.

GOING FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH

  • 1993: Second branch of Putzmeister America established at Racine, Wisconsin

  • 1994: Putzmeister sets another world record: 532m high rise concrete conveying at the power station Riva del Garda, Italy. The company’s Berlin branch is established
